Hypercholesterolemia or high cholesterol.

FountainRx provides breakthrough medications and support to people with certain conditions related to the heart, arteries and blood vessels, including high cholesterol (hypercholesterolemia). High cholesterol can be genetic, meaning it can run in families, and can increase a person’s risk for serious health issues like heart attacks and strokes. This condition is usually diagnosed based on blood tests, as it does not cause symptoms during early stages. Over time, high levels of serum cholesterol can lead to hardening of the arteries and plaque. This eventually causes narrowing of the arteries, which can obstruct blood flow and lead to a heart attack or stroke, depending on the site of the blockage. That is why it is important to get high cholesterol under control. Doctors may prescribe certain drugs to control high cholesterol if diet and exercise alone are not effective, or if there is a high risk of heart disease or stroke based on family history.

High cholesterol medications: PCSK9 Inhibitors.

At FountainRx, our pharmacists and support staff have expertise in helping patients manage this condition through specific medications. These include PCSK9 inhibitors, which are the latest treatment for high cholesterol. These drugs often work well in people who do not respond well enough to statins, or those who experience certain side effects from these drugs. Studies show that PCSK9 inhibitors can have a dramatic impact on cholesterol levels and can even prevent heart attacks or strokes. They may be taken on their own or in addition to statins.
