Dermatology

FountainRx provides breakthrough medications and support to people with dermatologic conditions including psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis. Both of these health issues involve the immune system. Psoriasis causes red, scaly patches to appear on the skin, typically on the elbows, knees or scalp—but it can appear anywhere. These spots are caused by skin cells growing at an abnormally rapid rate, and they may itch, burn or sting.

Psoriasis can be embarrassing and may impact a person’s quality of life. It is often diagnosed in people with other health conditions such as heart disease, diabetes and depression. Psoriasis frequently develops in people between the ages of 15 and 35, but it can develop at any age.

It is important to note that while psoriasis is often genetic, it can “flare” or worsen because of certain triggers. These can vary from person to person, but common triggers include stress, certain medications and even diet. Keeping a diary of flare-ups can help lead to the identification of these triggers.

Psoriatic arthritis is a type of arthritis that impacts some people who have psoriasis. These individuals have joint pain and swelling as well as skin lesions. Most people have psoriasis first and later develop psoriatic arthritis, but these joint problems can sometimes arise before psoriasis is diagnosed.

Psoriasis and psoriatic arthritis medications

At FountainRx, our pharmacists and support staff have expertise in helping patients manage these conditions through highly effective medications. These include drugs that impact the immune system and the way that the body’s inflammatory processes work. Some of these medications are injectable biologic drugs that target and block certain proteins involved in creating inflammation. We realize that using an injectable medication can be intimidating, so our staff will take the time to educate you on how to administer these drugs correctly and safely if you require them.
